What started off with a great series of preliminary bouts turned into one of the most lamentable MMA shows in a very long time. UFC 149 continued suffering from the evil mojo that befell it when over half the initial card dropped out due to injuries right up until the final bell of the main event. Even afterwards, I don’t really know what to make of what transpired; this is definitely an extreme exception to the rule of UFC fight cards.
Two weeks removed from one of the most anticipated fight cards in recent history, the UFC is back on pay-per-view with what remains of the once stacked UFC 149 card. Due to an absurd number of injuries, both UFC 149 and UFC 147 suffered due to a high number of changes made to the fight card; what we’re left with is still a collection of good fighters but far less name value is present, that is for sure.

With the midly unpleasent Avacyn Restored now firmly in the rear-view mirror, the yearly iteration of the Magic: the Gathering core set has finally arrived. Magic 2013 comes as a welcome relief to this writer, as the lack of mention for the previously mentioned Avacyn Restored was not an accident — and that’s all I’m going to say about it. Ever since Wizards of the Coast shook-up the core set formula, opting for yearly releases and a better mixture of new and old cards, I have actually looked forward to their releases.
In contrast to the anticipation for the pay-per-view portion of the event, the preliminary bouts were host to a number of odd fights, all of which ended in a decision. While there is some controversy surrounding Khabib Nuramegedov’s unanimous decision over Gleison Tibau, I would argue that all the decisions were correct based on the stated judging critera. (That said, the preliminary bouts were all rather boring; my engagement basically due to the fact this all leads into the most anticipated MMA fight since … the last time Sonnen challenged Silva!
After what has seemed like an unending build-up, finally the rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen is finally — and I do stress that word, finally — upon us. In addition to the much anticipated middleweight tilt between the mouthy contender and the well established champion is a slew of compelling, highly competitive fights. Following the somewhat lackluster UFC 147 – Silva -vs- Franklin II (predictions | recap), this next pay-per-view looks much, much better.
