How to Make a Death Metal Band

In recent days, I have been confronted with the question “what is death metal?” At first glance it seems to yield an easy answer however, when looking further into the issues it– no, wait, it’s still a pretty god damn easy answer. Death metal is equal parts mentality and is it musicality. There is also the “death metal aesthetic”, which many people often overlook as a major trait of this enduring genre.

Given my love of limited Magic, and my new found appreciation for cube drafting, I am please to announce the completion of my first Common Cube draft. After several months of acquiring cards and going through the preparatory work, the payoff finally came during a 2.5 day excursion to a friend’s cottage. Few things are more appealing to me than fresh air, a fridge full of cold beer, and the opportunity to play copious amounts of Magic.

Despite reservations from pretty much everyone, UFC 147 opened with a solid series of undercard bouts. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start with the opening bout, between Ricardo Arantes and Milton Viera being scored as a draw — despite being a clear 29-28 victory for Viera. Despite the peculiar scoring of the opening bout, the remainder of the undercard produced some tense, exciting fights displaying equal amounts of brutality and technical grappling.
Ever since I first cut my teeth on the original Final Fantasy and, later WarCraft: Orcs and Humans, I have been an avid fan of early era strategy and role-playing games. Along the way, while I still had a subscription to Nintendo Power magazine — and before it turned into a roughly 1:1 ratio of advertising versus real content — there was a lengthy series of feature articles concerning a game called Ogre Battle. The name seemed peculiar enough that I simply had to find out what the fuss was about.
I will be on a brief summer vacation and, as such, there will be no updates until Monday of next week.
