Now that we’re down to the second half of the quarter-finals, the show feels a lot shorter since they’re packing two fights into each broadcast. We return to The Ultimate Fighter: Live with a brief rundown of last week’s winners, Michael Chiesa and James Vick, and quickly shift focus to the two fights scheduled for this week.
“Tribal” decks are certainly not a new concept in Magic. In fact, since the very inception of the game, various groups of creatures have been designed to work with cards of their own type. Though the synergies and viable cards supporting tribal decks — such as Merfolk and Goblins — have changed over time, and have benefited from years of R&D, the prospect of a tribal deck has always appealed to me.

With two fights slated for the broadcast, The Ultimate Fighter: Live opened with a quick recap of last week’s winning effort from Andy Ogle, as he tapped out Mike Rio in the last preliminary match. They recapped Ogle’s win and Cruz’ assessment was that Rio simply gave up when Ogle reversed the ground position.

While I would be hard pressed to say Kyuss is an obscure band by any stretch, I think it’s fair to say they occupy the very nebulous space between a mainstream success and an underground, cult sensation. Being one of the main progenitors of the genre known as “stoner rock” — whether they really wanted to be, or not — Kyuss are certainly deserving of a niche place in the annals of rock history.

After another week, we’re back at the UFC training centre with the final quarter-final elimination match of The Ultimate Fighter: Live. After Team Faber pulled ahead in the scoring, Andy Ogle was slated to face Mike Rio of Team Cruz. This week’s show opened with a recap of Rio’s knee injury in training earlier in the season, and Ogle’s mental breakdown a couple of episodes prior.
At this point in time, at 28 years of age, I have been listening to various forms of “extreme” music for nearly half of my life. While I was not initially a fan of metal whatsoever, the progressive expansion of my musical tastes eventually lead me to appreciate the merits of all manner of extremity. Surprisingly, it did not take long for my collection of music to expand from largely being an assortment of mainstream bands to a pretty damn eclectic mish-mash of styles and genres.
