Words and things, mostly words.
When he was asked for his opinion on Golden Boy Promotions running Chuck Liddell versus Tito Ortiz 3 this past weekend, UFC President Dana White was his typical eloquent self:
I love Chuck Liddell and I don’t ever want to bad mouth Chuck Liddell. People even think I’m remotely bad mouthing Chuck Liddell, but the reality is — first of all, I heard last week the cokehead ‘Oscar De La Weirdo’ is talking shit that I don’t have any place to tell guys when to retire. First of all, it’s called ‘friendship’ you fucking cokehead. I’ve been friends with Chuck Liddell for 20 years and the reality is that Chuck Liddell retired when he should have retired. Eight, nine years ago, however long it was. And Chuck Liddell’s almost 50 years old and has no business fighting anymore. The fact that the state of California even let that fight happen is disgusting. Disgusting.
De La Hoya recently responded in kind, entreating Dana White to “shut the fuck up.”
I don’t even take issue with Dana White’s position on Chuck and the California commission — and I don’t care if he says mean things about another promoter either — but it’s amusing that on one hand he’s concerned about a fighter competing way past their prime, and yet the UFC is apparently working on a new 4-fight deal for BJ Penn… Unsurprisingly, Dana White’s compassion is exceedingly limited and reserved solely for close friends.
