Words and things, mostly words.
Given the general lack of promotion for this weekend’s fight card, headlined by Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, I was almost surprised that Golden Boy MMA decided to actually hold a press conference. Oscar De La Hoya came off terribly, sounding like he spent a whole 3 minutes preparing for the event, took no media questions, and awkwardly pronounced Chuck’s last name “Lie-Dell.” I’m not sure if Oscar could have come off any more oblivious and disinterested. Tom Lawlor managed to save things from falling off a cliff, but only barely.
This event feels dire, folks. It’s so very MMA that on the anniversary of the inaugural UFC event that the organisation is airing a throwaway card in the wee hours of the morning — emanating from mainland China — while two former stars haul their rickety bones into a cage to try and scrape the last bit of cash off the table. Exactly what this carnival sport deserves.
