Words and things, mostly words.
So, whatever I managed to catch has become the most brutal illness I’ve dealt with in at least a decade. I’m not counting the time I suddenly ended up in the emergency room with a spontaneous hemo-pneumothorax, since that’s more of a …. I don’t know, ‘structural’ issue I guess one might say. I don’t know exactly what it is that I caught, it’s not quite a flu, and probably some variant of strep throat.
For the first few days, it was annoying but tolerable with some OTC cold / flu meds, but over the past few days my nights became utter Hell. I developed a horrendous cough that got so bad at night, I ended up coughing with enough force to make my chest and back muscles hurt. This made lying down impossible. I also had a fever that left me melting unless I kept the temperature somewhere around 7 degrees (Celcius).
I went to a doctor yesterday, because I was getting about 2 hours of sleep per night. I have no idea how I was able to work half-days, but nevertheless I did. I would have stayed home but we were understaffed and enough other people were sniffling and coughing that it seemed moot in terms of sparing others the chance to get sick. I ended up getting a prescription for some Codeine-based cough syrup, in hopes of logging a good night’s sleep — my first in about 3 days,
Not so much.
I had forgotten that I don’t respond to Codeine at all. Well, I get none of the benefits; if I take it long enough, then I won’t be able to shit for a week but that’s about all it does. I spent the night coughing extremely hard, in agony, unable to sleep until about 4am. I finally passed out due to exhaustion, I think, but managed to get some decent sleep — in between waking up to spit up some rather horrendous looking mucous.
The fever looks to have broken, mostly, and the on-again-off-again headache is totally gone. So, this morning I did what I should have done in the first place and just picked up some really strong OTC cough syrup and that seems to have quelled 99% of the coughing. I am hoping to at least get back in the gym on Monday, although I’ll have to take things easy due to missing workouts for the past 9 days and the fact that I don’t want to push too hard before I am fully recovered.
